This is an old distillery. James MacGregor tookout his licence in 1824 on what was a farm aftera period of illicit production. According to RobertBruce Lockhart, this took place soon after MacGregor had received a visit from a localgauger. When asked what a specific farmbuilding contained, he said it was simply a peatshed. “Well, I suggest you take out a licence forit,” replied the gauger.
