Celebrating Women in Whisky, inspiring generations

Whisky is often seen as a male-dominated industry, but we at EW&W would like to take a moment to celebrate and recognise the incredible contributions of women in the world of Scotch whisky. From distillers to blenders, women have been making their mark in this industry for centuries, and we are proud to support and promote their achievements.

In honour of International Women’s Day, we would like to highlight some of the most notable women in Scotch whisky and their incredible accomplishments.

Bessie Williamson

Bessie Williamson is known for her work as the manager of Laphroaig distillery, a position she held from 1954 to 1972. During her tenure, she oversaw a significant expansion of the distillery’s production and helped to establish Laphroaig as one of the world’s most renowned single malts. Bessie was also instrumental in introducing the brand to the United States, where it quickly gained a devoted following.

Rachel Barrie

Rachel Barrie is one of the most respected blenders in the whisky industry, with over 27 years of experience. She has worked for a range of companies, including Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, and BenRiach, and has won numerous awards for her work. In 2019, Rachel was appointed as the first female master blender for the Famous Grouse, where she oversees the creation of some of Scotland’s most iconic blended whiskies.

Kristeen Campbell

Kirsteen Campbell is another trailblazing master blender, who has worked for companies including Diageo and Whyte and Mackay. She is currently the master blender for the Macallan, one of the world’s most prestigious single malt whiskies. She is responsible for creating and maintaining the signature style of the Macallan, using her expertise to craft exceptional whiskies that are enjoyed by connoisseurs around the world.

Carol Quinton

Carol Quinton is the founder of the Angels’ Share Glass Company, which produces beautiful, handcrafted whisky glasses and decanters. Her company has become a favorite among whisky enthusiasts, with products that are both functional and beautiful. Carol’s passion for whisky and her dedication to craftsmanship have made her an inspiration to many in the industry.

Emma Walker

Emma Walker is the distillery manager for the Glenglassaugh distillery, where she oversees all aspects of production. She began her career in the whisky industry as a tour guide, but quickly worked her way up to become one of the few female distillery managers in Scotland. Emma’s expertise and dedication have helped to make Glenglassaugh one of Scotland’s most respected distilleries.

We are proud to support and promote the achievements of these incredible women, and we hope that their stories inspire more young women to pursue careers in the whisky industry. At EW&W, we are committed to fostering a culture of equality and inclusivity, and we believe that the contributions of women are essential to the continued success of the whisky industry.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing more stories of excellence in the world of Scotch whisky.
