July 2020 Newsletter

Hello All,

We hope this newsletter finds you well as the country emerges from lockdown.

Despite some challenges we have faced this year, here at Elite Fine Wines we have some exciting developments in the pipeline that we’re keen to share with you.

New office premises

Having re-opened our offices, we have since realised that in order for our team to grow while still adhering to social distancing rules, we were going to need a bit more space, so we have relocated! Our new address is Unit 2 Square Rigger Row, Plantation Wharf, Battersea SW11 3TZ. As well as giving us space to ensure we can work safely in the short term, this also means we can continue expanding our team as the business grows. This office will also be our main HQ where we look forward to resuming our tasting events once things are back to normal. And there’s one other reason why we need a bit more space…see below!

Fine Wine…and now Whisky

We are delighted to announce that we have been approved for a WOWGR Licence (Warehouse-keepers and Owners of Warehoused Goods Regulations), which enables us to move into the malt Whisky market. We’ve been hoping to do this for a while now and our new premises will ensure we have the space as well as the expertise. We’ll be celebrating our 8 year anniversary shortly, and as soon as it is safe to host a gathering, we will invite our clients to come and toast a dram with us. Investing in Whisky is not much different to Fine Wine, and has a lot of the same benefits in terms of how it compares to other assets. If you are interested in diversifying your portfolio into Whisky, please feel free to get in touch with your account manager.

Wine and Whiskey via Zoom

One benefit to living under the recent lockdown is that most of us have become experts in using technology to host team meetings, share information, and socialise with friends. We’ve certainly made good use of technology in the last few months at Elite, and we fully intend to keep doing so! Going forward, we will be introducing a ‘wine of the month’ or a ‘whisky of the month’ presentation on Zoom, which our clients can log in to and listen to a short talk from our head buyer to learn about a Wine or Whiskey that we feel would make a good investment. We’ll be sure to keep you posted of what’s coming up – watch this space.

Success for Gaja customers

We would like to thank and congratulate customers that have purchased the Gaja wines from Piedmont earlier this year. Our allocation was secured just before lockdown and we were delighted and relieved that we ensured their safe passage to the UK before transportation became impossible. Legendary Italian producer Gaja has since featured in Decanter, The Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph, Bloomberg, and even an hour long segment on ITV’s This Morning. Piedmont has rapidly become the hottest region for investment after Bordeaux, Champagne and Burgundy. It is worth noting that Italian wines’ exemption from US tariffs has played a huge part in the uptake in investment grade wines, as well as the release of the much-hyped 2015 Brunellos and 2016 Barolos. There has been a noticeable shift in the style of wines produced in Italy as well which means that although the top wines are still capable of great age, they are more accessible at a younger age, which means they are more likely to be consumed – which drives up the price of the remaining wines.

We will be sure to keep you posted of our current developments. Feel free to get in touch at any time to discuss your portfolio.

Kind Regards,

The Elite Fine Wines Team
